ABSTRACT PAINTINGS

I want to create realms where I can finally have enough space all for myself, accompanied with a sensation of being extremely connected. These worlds I enter  have coherent and valid laws of their own--different from those of the outside world--which instead of being dogmatic and limiting, invite the vast and unexpected. I intend to make hidden, inner, as well as limitless outer spaces visible—thus validating their existence.

Process is crucial to me. Several layers of paint are applied, inventing methods that let the materials act on their own impulse, counting on accidents and random marks. Examples are dripping watery paint that runs, or the sticking together of wood panels where the manipulation of paint happens while the images are hidden.

My work in progress entails symmetrical, mirrored visions, utilizing a long known mystic technique to erase fear by creating duplications.  This commitment to erase fear is my political manifesto.

The Rorschach Tests (random, but symmetrical ink blots used in psycho-analysis) are often mentioned in relation to my pieces.  Most of us due to our social programming and educational system will feel uncomfortable, unless we can put definitions or representational meanings into images.  In this sense what one  sees is not hanging on the wall, but is in one's head--in other words, what one has in his head will be put into my paintings.   However, I invite the viewer to liberate herself from this impulse in order to be able to be fully present, and have  a true and undefined, spontaneous experience.

PORTRAITS

It is to fully recognize the essence of the subject by giving undivided attention to it. A portrait is an icon, with concentrated personal, emotional and spiritual expression embodied in the closest likeness of the model.
